Individual Counseling & Psychotherapy
My style is gentle and supportive, and I provide counseling for a variety of issues such as anxiety, depression, symptoms from trauma, PTSD, chronic pain, general unhappiness, relationship or job discontentment.
Memories of traumatic events, PTSD, and complex trauma from childhood abuse can adversely effect one’s life in subtle or dramatic ways. If you have suffered from trauma, you will be treated in a kind and gentle way to avoid any chance of retraumatization. I use EMDR to treat PTSD, anxiety and depression, self-esteem issues, and phobias. I also use EMDR to treat chronic pain, and have seen people get reduction in pain that has plagued them for years.
Life events such as losing a loved one through death or divorce, a move, children moving away from home, the end of a relationship, create a grief reaction which can be less painful with the help of a therapist. Sometimes, the normal grieving process is complicated by multiple, ungrieved losses, conflicted relationships, and/or mental illness. All loss sets in motion a transition which can be very difficult to navigate. Counseling can help you sort through these life challenges and become centered once again.
Individual counseling is generally most effective on a weekly basis, with regular one-hour sessions, although we can discuss how to best meet your needs.
